Castle at the foot of Mátra

The former Barkóczy castle is located on the northern edge of Recsk, on the road to Mátraderecske, at the foot of the Kanázsvár mountain. The total floor area of the building is 1065 m², of which 260 m² is the basement below, as well as 11 rooms and 5 bathrooms. The castle was designed with two floors in the middle and an attic in the right wing, which can be expanded if needed by adding an attic in the left wing and using the attic. The castle used to have several functions. In the 1950s, the headquarters of the ÁVH, then various state institutions operated here, the last time it gave place to the Mária Oltalma Foster Home, which was operated by the Order of the Sisters of Mercy named after Saint Paul Vince.
The castle is located on a 1.03-hectare corner lot, with an entrance gate on both sides, a built-up internal road network, and a decorative covering for parking 12-15 cars in front of the castle's main entrance. Its park is arboretum-like, and some special plants and trees can still be found in it today. It currently functions as a wedding and event venue, but it can also be suitable as an Education Center, Retirement Home or Castle Hotel after renovation. According to the original plan, they wanted to turn it into a hotel, for which the licensing plan documentation has expired, but it is available, it just needs to be re-licensed. The castle is not under monument protection, so it can be freely modified. The building is structurally perfect and in good static condition.
The owner has carried out all maintenance work, the beams of the roof structure of the building have just been renovated and it has also received a new Creaton ceramic tile covering. In the course of time, due to the different uses, its original castle-like character can no longer be discovered very much, but several original things can still be found, such as original windows, shutters, stair railings, and other small things.
The castle is a great, imposing building, with spacious spaces and bright rooms. All utilities can be found in the building. The restoration of the original conditions has begun, and the necessary works have begun.
Optionally, a wonderful, panoramic, slightly wooded 4.5-hectare area adjacent to the castle park can be purchased in a separate agreement, on which there is also a 100-square-meter fully comfortable log house, a separate stable, a barn and an outbuilding.
